Monitor Orientation

Monitors play a critical role in the operation of the Experienced Services Program (ESP) by directing the day-to-day activities of the Enrollee, giving feedback on work performed, providing necessary training, signing timesheets, authorizing reimbursement of pre-approved expenses, and authorizing leave.

This orientation introduces Monitors to their responsibilities.

About the ESP

The ESP, a partnership between National Park Service and NOWCC, helps NPS support workload needs with experienced workers:

  • Enrollees must be 55 or older
  • Enrollees are selected by and under the direction of NPS staff, but are not civil servants
  • Enrollees are program participants

NOWCC provides the basic administration for Enrollees, including:

  • Recruitment
  • Payroll
  • HR services
  • Separation

NOWCC handles administration so that Monitors can focus on directing Enrollees' day-to-day activities.

Each Monitor interacts with the NOWCC Field Staff regarding concerns about Enrollees in their Park/Office. The NPS National Program Manager manages ESP activities within NPS HQ.
